In Memory of Maryanne Amacher
Today, Shinkoyo mourns the passing of a great mentor and friend, Maryanne Amacher. We met her through her teaching at Bard MFA in 2005, and over the years we were deeply influenced by her visionary art, seeking mind, and warm friendship. A creator of site specific, architectural sound installations, Maryanne studied with Stockhausen and collaborated with Cage during her early years. In the experimental music community, Maryanne was unmatched in her art – immersive sound that wraps around your body in unimagined patterns, hypnotic tones that emanate from your own ears, physical and aural architectures. Sadly, much of Maryanne’s experiential art passes with her. She did release two mind altering CDs for Tzadik, the most recent of which is the aural equivalent of time travel. We urge you to check them out….and to imagine…sound, alive! We miss you and love you Maryanne!

DORON SADJA PLAYS DORON SADJA – @ ROULETTE
Composer/performer/artist Doron Sadja presents a dizzying evening of sonic reflections. Rich electronic textures fuse together with abstract noise blasts, piercing winds, purring cello tapes, and microphones too close for comfort. Expect nothing, be surprised. Sadja is a founder of the SHINKOYO Collective and the West Nile experimental performance space in Brooklyn and is also a regular employee at Roulette Intermedium, Inc. Doron performs in the improvisational group Symbol. Tonight’s event marks a rare re-appearance of the computer in his performance arsenal. Doron has released work on 12k, Shinkoyo, and Atak Records.see/hear:

Mario Diaz de Leon + Doron Sadja live at I Beam 9.26.09 as part of the Telluric Currents Series curated by Jeremiah Cymerman.
“Celebrating the diversity and creativity of New York’s underground musicians, each night of the series will present different groups of musicians who masterfully blur the lines between composition and improvisation, acoustic and electronic music, subtlety and extremity. The current experimental music scene in New York is as vibrant as ever and the Telluric Currents Concert Series seeks to pay tribute to the richness of the current musical landscape.”
